Abercorn Acorn

Do you ever look at beautiful things around you in nature and wish you could captivate it and freeze it forever?  I have done this so many times in the past, collected perfect Oak leaves or Samaras that have fallen from a tree (helicopter style) and landed for me to pick up and discover it is perfectly symmetrical.  Yet, even if you take these home with you they eventually dry out, change colour and crinkle out of shape.  When I found this absolutley perfect Acorn I knew what I had to do.

There is a local walk we love.  It is a coastal path that runs from Abercorn Church all the way to Blackness Castle on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. I am known for scouring the beaches for pebbles and shells but, during walks in forests, I also look for ‘tree treasure’.  I had already collected half a dozen fallen Acorns last Autumn but when I came across this one I was just so elated.  It honestly is the most perfect Acorn I have ever found.  From the texture on the cup/hat down to the smooth nut and how in proportion it all is.

If you love nature the Abercorn Acorn is like a little piece of Autumn to wear all year round.

The acorn was carefully transported home and then sent away for a mold to be made.  It has been cast in solid sterling silver and is a completely secure single piece.  It’s total weight, including the loop I have added at the top for the chain to run through, is 10.2g.  It is about 12mm across and it’s total length is 30mm.  The chunky Abercorn Acorn hangs beautifully on a 26″ sterling silver curb chain.

Hallmarked in Edinburgh.

The Abercorn Acorn arrives beautifully packaged in a Silverpickle gift box, tied with ribbon and includes a little polishing cloth.
